9 Frame Analysis - Bradley Hope

This 9 Frame Analysis is of the music video Misery by Maroon 5. This video has a very sexual orientation about it. Throughout the whole video there is constant sexual references. In all of Maroon 5's music there is alot of love quotes and their lyrics constantly symbolise love.

1st Frame

As we can see in this first frame it would seem that the two main characters of the video are having sex in what seems to be the middle of the road. We also see that the women is on top of the man with the man laid on the floor (sprawled rather than laid) and is not hugging or holding the girl. This would seem to suggest hat in this relationship the girl is the dominant of the two. By her being on top it shows her dominance.


2nd Frame

However this all changes in the 2nd Frame when it seems that the man is groping the womans bum. This shows an act of love making and by him Groping her he is trying to become the dominant of the two. However when looking more closely at the screen we wee that the girl is facing a fence meaning that woman is pinning the man againt the fence. Also again, shwoing that the woman is the dominant of the two.
3rd Frame

Again here we see another act of love making when the woman is biting the mans lip. However in this frame it would seem that the tides have changed and the man is now the dominant of the two as he seems to have her pinned up against a fence/wall.
4th Frame

In this scene we see that the tides have completly changed. It would seem that there is more to this what would seemed to be a ordinary couple. It now seems that either the guy has done something wrong to upset the girl in such a way that she has now kicked him in the face. Again in this screen we could say that the girl is asserting her dominace by actually kicking him in the face. Either that or she is just incredibly angry.

5th Frame

In this clip we could say that the male was trying to now run away from the female by running out into the road. However this seems to have gone wrong for the guy when he gets run over by the car. Upon closer inspection of the driver of the car it would seem that it is in fact the woman behind the wheel!

6th Frame

All of a sudden the video gets completly turned around and now they seem to be either at one of their homes or in a restraunt when the girl throws the man onto a table and mounts him. Showing yet again another act of love. This video seems to be getting more and more confusing.


7th Frame

Here we can now see that the man and woman are in the restraunts toilets. The man is getting attacked by the womand and has just had his head bashed in the door of a toilet cubicle. We can tell this by both the man's pain expression on his face and the womans anger expression on her's. Once again we can see that the woman is the more dominant of the two as he seems to be getting constantly beatben up by this woman who appears to be his girlfriend. (Well we assume her to be anyway!)

8th Frame

In this frame we see that the woman has somehow acuired an RPG and is about to fire it at the man killing him. (She must really want him dead from all this abuse she is giving him!) This shows that the woman in particular does not like this man at all. Whether this be due to him doing something wrong to her or maybe he has upset her in some way.

9th Frame

In the final frame we see that the guy has been thrown off of a building to his ultimate death. (which as we can see throughout the video was inevitable) As we can see from this video this couple definatly had a love hate relationship. What we can also take from the video is that the woamn was defiantly the more dominant of the two.
